The university has attached great importance on the role of scientific research in facilitating disciplinary construction and promoting the level of education, and has adhered to the discipline of combining theoretical research with technological development and application. By giving priority to the key programs, bringing the advantages into full play and strengthening characteristics, the university has gained remarkable achievements in scientific research, providing a powerful driving force for teaching reform and the constant improvement of educational quality. This makes a great contribution to the development of the local economy.

    The university has undertaken a group of high-level research projects including the national “973”, “863” programs. It has won awards such as the National Awards for Scientific and Technological Advancement, The National Awards for Teaching Achievements, the Scientific and Technological Achievements Awards of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, Provincial and Ministerial Natural and Social Science Awards. During the Tenth Five-Year Plan, staff members of the university have undertaken 630 research projects at different levels, 40 of which were of the national level and 105 of provincial and ministerial levels. These research funds acquired totally to RMB 13.5 million. The research results of this period included 6426 theses, 327 of which have been adopted by SCI, EI and ISTP; 245 monographs; 12 achievements that have passed the scientific and technological achievements appraisal, two of them were ranked as national leading level, and 10 a national advanced level; and 273 scientific research awards of all levels, including one second prize of the National Award for Scientific and Technological Advancement. Since the eleventh Five-Year Plan, the university has made a great progress in scientific research, it has undertaken 25 national projects and 66 provincial and ministerial projects.
