Brief Introduction

Qufu Normal University, established in 1955, is a key university in Shandong Province. It is located in Qufu, the hometown of the great thinker, educator, politician - Confucius. And it has another campus in Rizhao, a beautiful coastal city in Southeast Shandong Province. Under the guiding of school motto “learn insatiably, and instruct others indefatigably”, it forms a good school spirit of “being diligent, being simple, being united, being enterprising”. It has produced about 130 thousands qualified graduates and made significant contributions to Chinese economic construction and social progress.

 The university has 24 departments, 50 undergraduate programs, 25 research institutes, 6 doctorial, 77 Master programs, 7 provincial key programs and 2 provincial key laboratories. It’s also equipped with Shandong Laser Polarization Engineering and Technology Research Center, Shandong Confucian Study Base and Shandong Teaching Curriculum Reform Center.

The university employs 2 academicians, 8 visiting professor, 2430 teaching staff members, 1269 full-time teachers, including 199 professors, 430 associate professors, 1 national outstanding young and middle-aged expert, 12 provincial outstanding young and middle-aged experts and professional and technical top-notch talents, 40 provincial young and middle-aged colleges and universities academic leaders trained backbones, and 25 ones with the enjoyment of the special governmental subsidy. Up to June   2004, there are 21578 undergraduates and graduates with 3 years course, 1727 Masters and Educational Masters, 14393 Adult Educational learners. The disciplines have covered art, science, engineering, law and another 5 disciplines.

Programs Offered:

1、Non-degree Language Program: Chinese language courses .The program lasts1 or 2 Years. Including Sub-junior, primary, intermediate, intermediate senior and senior classes. The program certificate will be awarded after the course work is finished.

2、Common Non-degree Program: Foreign students taking refresher course may choose to have classes together with Chinese students or have separate courses according to the subject offered. Curriculums see the attached sheet. Refresher certificates will be conferred after the passing examinations or tests.

 3, Undergraduates: Course work is completed in 4 years in accordance with China’s education system and educational planning for Chinese undergraduates. Curriculums see the attached sheet. Classes for foreign students are formatted in an immersion environment. Some selected courses are waived while other courses are specially added in accordance to the specific needs of foreign students. A Bachelor’s degree will be given after mandatory examinations are passed and a graduate thesis is completed.

 4、Master’s program: Course work is completed in 4 years in accordance with China’s education system and educational planning for Chinese post graduates. Curriculums see the attached sheet. The students will receive a master’s degree after they finish mandatory courses, pass examinations, complete a postgraduate thesis and successfully hold oral graduation examinations under the direction of tutor.

5 、Doctoral program: This course is completed in 3 years in accordance with China’s education system and educational planning for Chinese doctors. Students will receive a doctoral degree after they finish mandatory courses, pass examinations, complete a doctoral thesis and successfully hold oral graduation examinations under the direction of tutor.

5、 Short-term Non-degree program : Short-term courses training range in length from 1 week to 4 weeks. During this time foreign students may also be inclined to do some sight-seeing in Shandong Province. Short-term courses are classified into beginning classes, intermediate classes and advanced classes in accordance with the students’ Chinese level.

Preparation of Application Documents:

1)        Application Form for Foreign Students of Qufu Normal University

2)  Certificate of the latest degree, Obtained course taken and transcripts

3)  A thesis in Chinese (above 1500 words) for those to be Masters and Doctors.

4)  Recommendation letters required for those to be Masters and Doctors.

5)  Art students should provide two pieces of work or a tape of record.

Application Deadlines:

1)       Foreign students who are enrolled in spring must complete their applications during September 15 to January 10, and those who get in school in autumn must finish the applications during February 15 to August 10.

2)     Programs of foreign organization and short-term training groups can apply at any time.

 Recruiting Method

By examining the applicant’s materials.

There will be an interview notice or a test of putonghua if necessary.

Notification of Acceptance

As soon as the foreign students are accepted by the university, they will receive the Entrance Notice of Qufu Normal University, Visa Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China (JW202) and Physical Examination Record for Foreigners. Foreign students should submit all of the above documents as well as their passports to the closest Chinese Consulate for an X visa.

Students in Short-term Non-degree program may apply for an F visa.

The Open Time of School

Autumn Admission : Around September 1

Spring Admission : Around the end of February or the beginning of the March

Transportation to the School

By train: We meet the students in Yanzhou train station (15 minutes by bus)

For free.

By air: We meet the students at the airport if students arrive at Beijing or Shanghai. Transportation fee should be paid by the students.

If students leave Jinan for Qufu, or leave Qingdao for Rizhao, we can pick them up (free over five people)

Registration

All the students enrolled by the school need to register according to the date given on the Entrance Notice of Qufu Normal University. Those who fail to register in time are supposed to get the permission from the school in advance, otherwise, enrollment will be cancelled.

Long-term students need to bring their Entrance Notice of Qufu Normal University, Physical Examination Record for foreigners, Visa Application for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China (JW202), passport and 8 photos (3×4cm) to the Foreign Students Section, International Cultural Exchange School to register.

Short-term students need to bring the Entrance Notice of Qufu Normal University, passport and 3 photos (3×4cm) to the Foreign Students Section, International Cultural Exchange School to register.

Tuition

1)       All fees are paid by Renminbi. Tuition should be paid at the beginning of each term.

2)     The Foreign Students Office helps students to obtain their residence cards. All fees incurred in this process should be paid by the student.

3)     Tuition for the students recommended by sister school is reduced. Tuition for the      exchange students is exempted.

Accommodations and Cost

The foreign student’s dormitory in Qufu covers an area of 9,600 square meters and its buildings occupy 5000 square meters. Dormitory in Rizhao campus covers an area of 30000 square meters and its buildings occupy 16000 square meters. In the building there is a reading room, a self-study room, an internet café, a gymnasium, a dining hall, public kitchens and laundry area. It is equipped with a central air-conditioner .IDD and DDD calls or Fax service is available.
